A Year of Learning!

Here is a quick rundown of the Grade 6 Curriculum we will be covering this year:




English Language Arts
The ELA curriculum centers around four bands:
*Language as Sense Making
*Language as Exploration and Design
*Language as Power and Agency
*Language as System
Français 
The three main skills explored in the new French curriculum are:
*To determine and explore the meaning of ideas and information
*To express oneself in a variety of situations and with a variety of intentions
*To develop an identity as a French Immersion learner 

In both languages, students will be reading, writing, speaking, critically thinking, representing, listening and viewing.

REPORT CARD

Students will be evaluated on their learning behaviours using the following scale:
Scale
C= Consistently - almost all of all of the time
S= Sometimes - less than half of the time
U= Usually - more than half of the time
R= Rarely – almost never or never
Personal management skills
Uses class time effectively; works independently, completes homework and assignments on time
Active participation in learning
Participates in class activities; self assesses; sets learning goals
Social responsibility
Works well with others; resolves conflicts appropriately, respects self, others and the environment; contributes in a positive way to communities
Engagement in using French
Speaks French with the teacher and classmates in a variety of situations; contributes to the French ambiance by taking initiative in speaking French


Students will be evaluated on the Essential Learning Outcomes in each subject area using the following scale:
4 = Very good to excellent understanding and application of concepts and skills
3 = Good understanding and application of concepts and skills
2 = Basic understanding and application of concepts and skills
1 = Limited understanding and application of concepts and skills
ND = Does Not Yet Demonstrate the required understanding and application of concepts and skills
